Overview

I am writing book 2 and with this funding, I would like to publish

Commissioning Art: A Handbook for artists, councils, governments and developers

Our aim is: To publish a practical guidebook to guide readers (such as corporates and property developers) through managing art projects, empowering them to support a wide range of local artists.

This is a practical handbook that guides readers (from the corporate and property industries) through managing art projects. With content borne from my experience as an art consultant (20 plus years), I aim to empower these individuals/companies to support the creative community through commissioning art via a clear, ethical framework.

Many people are scared to engage with artists because they are from a different world and have different concerns, aims and value systems. We hope that through our work on this book, people from outside the art world will be more confident and empowered to reach across the void and engage with these people. These people, (artists and creatives) are a diverse bunch and include many marginalised or minority groups.Through engagement with another whole community, we hope to foster commercial opportunities for artists from all walks of life, all cultures, and all levels of ability or disability. Through empowering these people with knowledge, we hope to encourage increased commercial relationships between the artist cohort as a whole, and with sources of funding and opportunity. Many corporate and property clients already have policies in place to engage with diverse communities, they can be empowered to do this through art with the knowledge shared in the book

The first book titled “Making Art Matter” was designed in conveying the value of the artistic community (with a focus on the importance of local artists), while this book will be focused on practical advice. We are hoping that these empowering resources will demonstrate our knowledge to potential future clients so that we can continue to empower them in a more active way when recovery takes shape.

We are writing a book that will help cultures, arts and corporations which also extend to local communities. We educate our clients about the importance and value of supporting local artistic talent.

Through our work with Art Pharmacy, we connect established, emerging, represented and unrepresented local creative practitioners with corporate and property development clients. We deliver art projects that elevate important stories from a vast array of community groups. Our aim is to see diverse art in everybody’s everyday life.

My walking tour business, Culture Scouts, curates walking tours in Sydney inner-city villages for locals, and domestic and international tourists. The tours include independent food and beverage, retail, studios and galleries, street art and creative businesses.

We are really proud of what we have done over the past three years for our local community.

From 2019- 2021

  • We engaged creatives from a pool of over 1620 artists from all regions of Australia.
  • We reached approximately 1,267,484 with projects spanning across a selection of different States and Territories.
  • We enabled over $1,430,000 of artist and supplier fees going back into our creative community

We are currently applying for B corporation status for Art Pharmacy, this includes adhering to various environmental and social impact measurements.

-We will use recycled paper to print the book, and recycled envelopes to send out the book.-We are using a B Corp certified courier company (Sendle)

– We will make the book available in digital format for those who want to reduce their consumption of paper or reduce their reliance on carbon-heavy delivery transport.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses collaboration – We are committed to exploring ways in which we can enhance the economic prosperity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially in the art and culture sector.
